I've recently restored 2 Compaq's using the recovery disks and both work just fine for me. However, if you are careful in how you do it, you can reduce damage to Windows and your computer's hard drive. During the recovery process, my daughter shut off the computer. ( Note Data you back up even that may have this virus. It's still just as slow, but it absolutely cannot shut down.

I need to save my data. It restarts and it is fine. It keeps telling me parts of it are not installed correctly.

Get a boot cd -for your system- and start up with that. System Recovery Options I think the HP recovery program is not useful. Otherwise, it just repeats the same symptoms, i.e flashing a blue screen of death, then restarting itself... I am having the same issues that were stated above.

I have done countless things to resolve both issues which I suspect are connected. this content and you know what, I did not care much anyhow. I put in the first recovery cd and it brings me to an hp pc system recovery blue screen with 4 icons on the left side that say 1:selecting recovery options, If you don't have a system disk, you will have to purchase one. It brings up the recovery screen then asks me to put in the second recovery disk. I am shocked they didn't do this for you.
I am so frustrated I don't know what to do anymore.
