It's not a problem but dust around the RAM slots could easily be squeezed into the gap as the board flexed, breaking the contact with the golden fingers on the RAM. Having the drive installed in the machine (even with windows incorrectly installed) is not going to stop POST.

I'm not going to be able to put it back together until tomorrow but I disconnected everything, removed the dust and applied new thermal paste after removing the old stuff. Several functions may not work. Check your caddy to see if it has any small DIP switch(es).
